Who doesn’t love a grey?
A $160,000 Magic Millions Gold Coast yearling, Gabeira was in the top 10 Deep Field fillies sold in 2019- so rest assured she’s a very nice type! Measured to stand 16.1 hands high, Gabeira stands over plenty of ground and has great bone and substance.
Gabeira showed considerable potential on the track before a stable injury which occurred in January curtailed her racing career.
Facing the starter on just 7 occasions, Gabeira won 2 races, a Geelong Maiden (dead-heat) (1230m) at her third start, and a Metropolitan win at Sandown (1300m) at her fifth start. She had just returned from a spell, running an excellent first-up third at Caulfield (1100m) in an extremely high-class Saturday BM70 race behind subsequent stakes winner In the Boat, and second placed Marine One, who was to be victorious next start in the Group 2 MVRC Rubiton Stakes over the same course and distance. Shortly afterwards Gabeira was injured in her stable and her owners recently made the difficult decision to retire her. In her very brief career Gabeira finished out of the top 4 on only 2 occasions – both times on unsuitable heavy tracks.
By the all-conquering Deep Field, whose service fee has jumped from $22,000 to $88,000 due to the marvellous achievements of his progeny to date. This boom young stallion recently passed Medaglia D’Oro’s record as the highest earning sire ever in a Hong Kong season. The Champion Third Season Sire in 2020/2021, he has since amassed a current total of 278 winners, 14 stakes winners and over $43 million in earnings headed by Group 1 winners Sky Field (HKJC Longines Hong Kong Sprint), Portland Sky (MRC Oakleigh Plate) and Al Muthana (Greyville Gold Challenge Stakes).
Out of Melbourne winning mare Quicksilver Lass, a daughter of the top-class sire Testa Rossa (780 winners and 67 stakes winners). Testa Rossa has also left his mark as a broodmare sire with his daughters having produced 520 winners and 22 stakes winners including the likes of Group 1 winners Global Glamour, Vow and Declare, Cool Aza Beel, Marky Mark and Prince Fawaz.
There could be nice upside for the purchaser of Gabeira. Quicksilver Lass’s second live foal, a 2020 Pierro (leading sire) filly, was a $180,000 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale purchase by astute trainer Kris Lees. While she has a 2021 colt by the Champion First Crop Sire Capitalist to come through the system.
Gabeira hails from a family which is littered with particularly strong black type. Her second dam is Fullazz (by Champion Sire Redoute’s Choice), was a Melbourne stakes winning 2yo, who has gone on to produce So You Think’s outstanding Group 1 winner D’Argento (ATC Rosehill Guineas). She has also produced Hello Beauty (previously Fullazaboot) who was second in he GCTC Magic Millions 2YO Classic and now races in Hong Kong. Fullazz has a 2020 filly by So You Think, a $170,000 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale purchase by leading Adelaide trainer Chris Bieg, and she was covered by So You Think in 2021. This is also the family of Group 1 winning 2yo Sizzling (by Snitzel).
Gabeira is a terrific opportunity to buy a good-looking Melbourne winning mare by a leading young stallion in Deep Field, and from a female line littered with a multitude of Group 1 performers.
